Here's another color guessing contest to test your luck and genetic knowledge.

Entries closed. Please enter your results as you get them.

Prizes will be awarded when all results have been posted or after May 16, whichever is appropriate.

1. Pick 5 crosses you want to do with your own stallions and mares. The only restriction is that they may not have identical gene tests.

2. Guess what the gene test for their foal might be.

3. Post your 5 entries, giving a link to both horses, their color names, a copy of their genetic test results, and your guess of what the foal will be in this thread, including both color name and the gene test.

4. The deadlines for posting will be the end of May 1, game time, for players with an upgrade and the end of May 2 for players with free accounts.

5. Post your results after you have bred your pairs. The format will be to copy your entry post and then insert a link to the foal and the actual gene test result.

6. The deadline for posting your results will be May 16, in case some pairs are being pasture bred.

I will award 1 point for each correct guess and an additional point for any allele that is attributed to the correct parent. For example, if both stallion and mare are heterozygous for Champagne, You will get 1 point if you guessed the the foal would be heterozygous for Champagne and another point if you guessed correctly that it would get the Champagne from the sire or from the dam.

Thanks for your entry, supersarah.

I think you need to reverse the order of your Dun and Flaxen guesses for the foal. The standard format is to have the sire's contribution come first, and the dam's second, so it should read dD and fF.

It's been a busy week and I've had a major tattoo commission in HaJ1--5 or six different tattoos, with several revisions for most of them--to use up time and energy.

I have begun compiling the points, but there's a ways to go yet. I have the three short entries tallied, your included. There are four left to go, all of them with five pairings. My plan is to get everything tallied and the prizes awarded by Tuesday, the 16th.

Whew! Well, the scoring is finally finished. The first thing I had to do was come to a decision about exactly how things should be scored. My decision was for stricter guidelines, rather than loose ones.

Here are my criteria:
1. If the foal's test for a given gene was not the same as the guess, no points were awarded.

2. If one parent was homozygous for the dominant allele of a gene and the other parent was homozygous for the recessive allele of a gene, no point was awarded, because there was only one possible result.

3. If both parents were homozygous for the same allele of a gene, no point was awarded, because there was only one possible answer.
4. If the parent's allele set for a given gene were different, and the foal's test matched the guess, a point was awarded.

5. If the player guessed for the color name matched the tested color name, 1 point was awarded.

6. Sometimes 3 points were awarded. Example: Sire-Pp, Dam-pP, guess-pp. Foal tested pp. One point for correct guess, 1 point each for picking the correct allele from both sire and dam.
Another example: Sire-Ff, Dam-fF, guess-Ff. Foal tested Ff. One point for guess of heterozygous flaxen, 1 point each for guess having the correct allele from each parent.

The Final Results:

Players who entered 5 guesses.

Runner up--Waldgraf, score 15
