How do Dapples work?
-
I've tried to figure it out by looking for certain genes in archives and not, but it doesn't seem to work.
This horse that I found in the archive/search is silver black, with these genes: eE aa CC dd gg ff SS pp zZ WF: Light

except the genes don't seem to matter.
I own these horses, and they were created without dapples, but then I refreshed their images and suddenly they have dapples. Sorry, I haven't color tested this first one yet.

Are they just a matter of chance? -
is the white factor related?

I am way too new to be commenting here, but I absolutely love dapples so I have been watching out for them. There was a thread on the forum last week talking about Ammit relatively recently enabling dappling in more colors, so that may be part of it for you. I *think* dapples are more common in sooty horses, the more sooty (homozygous, sooty+) the more likely they will dapple. I also think one of the conversations sort of indicated that silvers seem to dapple a lot. I will see if I can find the thread and link you to it. But really you need one of the more experienced players to comment...

There are even "reverse" dapples, which are a shade or two darker than the base coat, rather than lighter.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
