How do I make a tattoo
  • I can't make a tattoo no matter what I try
  • There are a couple of us who make tattoo's if you find it difficult. Looking at cross stitch patterns always helps me. If you would like me to create one for you I do it at cost plus 100hb's. If it's your first tattoo I do it for just 100hb's and have you send me your free slot after I'm done.
  • I would also be happy to show you the in's and out's of tattoo making if you like. Just message me that way we don't clog up the thread.

  • Here are two that I'm currently working on that I got the ideas from cross stitch patterns.

  • FJ is an amazing artist for tattoos on here. She did two of mine!
  • FJ is indeed a great tattoo artist.

If you want to make your own, you need to go to your stable home page. On the right side under Upgraded Features, you should find a link to your Tattoo Registry. I believe you have a Basic Upgrade, so it should show up there.

When you get to the registry, you should have 1 free tattoo slot. Others cost 10,000 hbs. You can name the tattoo, then click on Edit this Tattoo. You will find a box 25 pixels square. You can select the color you want and then make your design by clicking in the left hand box to insert colored pixels. You will find a button for saving your work, which should be done fairly frequently.

  • FJ made 2 of my tattoos and they turned out great!
  • Thanks for the tip on cross stitch patterns! I attempted to make my own tattoo of a leaping horse and I don't think it turned out too badly. There's something about the horse's hind legs that just doesn't look quite right, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. I still have to decide on colors too since I just did it in black for now.

  • That leaping horse tattoo is great Windward. I have made my own which looks like a wiggly line, but it's the constellation Cassiopeia, which fits with my breed name etc. I am tempted to make another for my show horses after looking at all of these beautiful designs.
  • Windward I love your leaping horse!
  • Awe I love it!:) WindWardFarm
  • That looks great WindwardFarm. If your going to use the tattoo on all different color horses your best bet is to use black and white. My Stable tattoo is done like this.

You can see the WO on the thigh of the brindle and on the shoulder of the Liver chestnut. I use a white circle at 15% transparency and the letters in black at 38% transparency. You can get transparency by clicking the little color box and then the little checkered box at the bottom. You then can slide it up and down or simply type in the percentage you want. Having the two colors insures that the tattoo will show up no matter what color the horse is.
  • Thanks everyone! I did mine in black with 60% transparency, will it look more realistic if I make it around 40% transparency then? And thanks for the tip about the white circle, I hadn't thought about what would happen when I put my tattoo on a dark colored horse.
  • Transparency is something I play around with. I think it helps soften the tattoo, especially when dealing with colors like black and white. You can always go back and play with a tattoo without it costing anything and when you refresh the horses image the tattoo will change on them too. Play around with it and have some fun. Nothing is ever set in stone.
  • Also think about contrasting colors to 'highlight' the tattoo. Lots of times that makes it pop just enough that your eye picks up the rest of the tattoo.

(going to see if I can find one of mine that actually does that!)

Here we go! On Starfires pearl tattoo the stardust was getting lost on the darker horses, so we made it more noticeable with white 'twinkles'.
