Breeding Advice for WF
  • Hey, I want to breed my stallion(http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=878645) to these two mares in the future, but I'm wondering if it is too risky. http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=808429

I've looked at the chart and it is moderate risk, so I want a second opinion to see if you guys think I should risk losing the foals or if I should choose another stallion to breed them with. Thanks!
  • All of them have large of extensive WF, and frame and splash tend to increase it. I'd say it's far too risky. If you want to breed your boy to risky kit mares, do it to them when their WF is minimal or none to minimize the risk.

  • Thank you so much! I'll breed them to different stallions/mares.
  • Its up to you, but I personally would test him. Even though it might be scary to possibly have him be snipped it is always better that having all of his foals(most) likely snipped. My Personal opinion, as I find it always turns out better that way.

By the way he is simply gorgeous !
  • His page does say that she has comparison tested him against other horses and he tested superior. I also have a boy I know will be snipped if I test him, but his sire is way too high quality for my mares and he comparison tested the exact quality I was looking for for my mares, so he can help we to further my line where I was stalled. Since he is comparison tested the way they want him then he is no more risky than a lined horse that comparison tested that way and was tested. The test itself does not increase likelihood of intact foal, I think that if she likes him she could try him out and see. I would look at the stallion he was tested against though and consider breeding him to mares the gen above that.
