White Wedding contest finished!
  • Got a White Wedding HH. To win, please answer the questions. I will pick my favorite answer before I go to bed, so around 6 hours from now and send the winner the link for the share. No questions about swallows or Assyria, I promise!

1). If you could own any mythical creature as a pet, what would it be and why? If there is a particular author or artist or movie whose depiction of this creature particularly speaks to you, please reference it here.

2). If you could travel anywhere in thelse world for 6 months with no worries and no restrictions, where would you go and why?

3). What is your favorite flower or plant? Why?
  • My own answers:

1). I would love to have a hippogriff as depicted in the Harry Potter universe. I love that they are proud and fierce and loyal and I still think Harry's ride on Buckbeak in Prisoner of Azkaban is the best effects sequence in any of the movies.

2). I would love to start in Egypt and work my way south through Africa, seeing all sorts of wild animals and also the amazing geography of the continent.

3). Daffodil. A ton of them were planted by my great great grandmother on our family farm and they've naturalized and covered a huge pasture. They are absolutely gorgeous in Spring and definitely signal the end of winter.

  • 1. I would have a Dragon, I have always loved them and used them frequently in my school projects when I was younger. I would love to be Daenerys (Game of Thrones) and have my own dragon to ride (Alas, I don't have the hair for it....or her body....or live in a fantasy world) :D
I have also a soft spot for unicorns. As a child my favourite movie of all time was "The last Unicorn"...I had a very happy moment when I was able to find a copy on DVD :x

    2. I have always wanted to travel to Ireland, Scotland & Wales...It has three of my favourite things...Gypsy Cobs & Shires....Castles (There is that fantasy thing again lol)...and I drool over the Accent :-))

3.I ADORE Irises (No reason) ...Followed closely by "Happy Roses" because, who doesn't love a rainbow.

  • 1). I'd have to say one of the Companions from Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series. An intelligent equine companion that you can have conversations with and is your lifelong partner-in-crime sounds like heaven to me.

2).Ooo...anywhere with no restrictions. I'd go to the Hobbiton set from the Lord of the Rings movies in New Zealand and spend six months pretending to be a Hobbit. It would be so much fun.

3). I love big, broad sweeping trees. I just love the power and presence they exude. I grew up in the deep south and the massive Live Oaks have always held a special place in my heart. There's one in particular. Growing up in New Orleans, I called him the Grandfather tree but he's also called the Tree of Life by locals. He's one of the oldest Live Oaks in the city and is as majestic as any animal. Hopefully, external links are acceptable because I just must share a photo: https://100oaks.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/etienne-de-bore-oak_2.jpg

  • @Waldgraf...I wish I could put a face to the name. My image of you running around like a hobbit isn't complete :))

  • 1) Absolutely a dragon! I've mentioned this series before in another of these question-answers forums, but the series How To Train Your Dragon had a serious impact on me when I was a kid! Dragons were painted as such sassy yet loving creatures that were honestly just your best friend. They remind me much of cats and horses, as there were hunting dragons and riding dragons, which are coincidentally (though not really coincidentally....) the two animals I own and love to surround myself with!

    2) I would absolutely spend as much time in Greece as I could, learning about their history and mythology. It is so captivating! Ever since I was a little girl, I've been interested in Greek art and mythology and it holds a special place in my heart. I could read books about it for the rest of my life, but my absolute number one goal is to go see it for myself. I'd also like to go back to Australia and stay longer than the two weeks I did, because it left me in awe. Such a beautiful country and so much wildlife to see and so much to do and I could go on about how much fun I had! One day, I'd like to live there, even for only a couple years.

    3) My favorite flower is by far the alstromeria. There's a ton of different spellings I've seen for it, but that was how I learned it! I've loved them since I was little because they're my mom's favorite flower as well! She would always have a bouquet of them on the kitchen counter or the living room table or somewhere else in plain sight, and it really doesn't feel like home if they aren't present. They're gorgeous flowers and they just pop out to me when I see them in stores or in houses, and as a bonus they last a very long time when cut! They come in all sorts of colors, so there's something for everyone, and, as I've already said 7000 times, they're simply beautiful.

Bonus picture so more people can appreciate these lovely flowers!

Thanks so much for this lovely opportunity! Always fun answering these sorts of questions!

  • 1). I would own a dragon, of course! I would love either a pocket dragon, like one that could ride on your shoulder and collect little shiny things to give to you. Or perhaps one like in His Majestys Dragon, the Tremeraire series. Maybe the Chinese courier, the Yu-Lung (although no one owns dragons in China), or perhaps an Angelwing.

I've always loved dragons and view them as majestic, proud creatures. If I had to be any mythical creature, the answer would be the same!

2). I would love to go to Europe. Tour Britain, Scandanavia and visit historic sites. In NZ things aren't that old and I just LOVE to go through town and look up, above the store fronts to where you could see the old buildings. I want to visit the french city of Le Quesnoy, and many other places with historic significance.

3). I love orchids. They're so elegant and colorrful! Well, the normal ones anyway. And then you get the...ahem...."interesting" ones. But I'd never keep one, as I kill all indoor plants I try to look after...

  • Oh and @Waldgraf, I think you can go riding on some of the places they used as sets...My mum actually lives very close to Hobbiton. It is kinda expensive, but they have their own special beer!

  • Well, the question states no worries and no restrictions. I assume that means the beer will be paid for!

@Goobanni - imagine a little hobbit damsel. Then imagine her frolicking around Hobbiton and that should complete the image!
  • @waldgraf--definitely the beer is paid for in this scenario!

One of my friends traveled to most of the LotR film sites a couple years ago with some friends. I think they all dressed up like elves and ran around like lunatics. Definitely had a good time! I haven't made it across to kiwiland yet but it's on the to do list!

A unicorn! With a rainbow mane and tail lmao.

I have always loved unicorn, simply cause they are just like horses but more magical :))

2). If you could travel anywhere in thelse world for 6 months with no worries and no restrictions, where would you go and why?
England or Germany. My father was half German and my great grand parents came to Australia from England. So it would be a way to get in touch with my heritage :D
3). What is your favorite flower or plant? Why?
Favourite flower would be the poppy, it represents the fallen soldiers that fought for our country. Had a few family members that fought in the first and second world war. Every Anzac day and Rememberance day my mother and I always buy a pin or poppy to help support our troops. :)

  • 1. A unicorn. I particularly love the depiction in the animated film The Last Unicorn. Unicorns are so beautiful and refined. Their magic is an added bonus! I am lucky enough to own a cremello mare irl, she is very special and has got me through some very tough times. I'm convinced she was actually a unicorn in a past life! :x

    2. I would spend the 6 months traveling around Australia in a horse-drawn caravan! The only states I haven't visited are WA and Tasmania. I'm quite a homebody, I don't particularly like flying, and there's so much of this great country I haven't seen yet. I think traveling gypsy-style would give a unique perspective of Aus, and it means I can take my dog and the ponies with me :)

    3. Crepe Myrtle. When my welsh filly Knick Knack died from colic complications, Grandad bought me a crepe myrtle to plant over her grave. The flowers are so tiny and delicate, just like Knick Knack <3

  • 1. There was a time where I would have said dragon (I still want tiny show dragons) but no. I want a crocotta. Crocottas are Indian canids often linked to the hyena that are said to imitate the voices of people in order to lead them astray and prey upon them. Can you imagine becoming friends with one? You'd have someone to talk to and someone to deal with the horrible people in your life. Also prank phone calls.

2 Japan. I want to see the weirdness and the traditional otaku areas. Most of all, I want authentic ramen. The ramen in the states is said to not be nearly as good because ramen doesn't ship well and not a lot of manufacturers and cooks can't get the consistency right. If that's true, it must be amazing straight from the source.

    3. Honey suckles. Those things smell amazing in full bloom. The woods behind my childhood home was filled with them. I don't see a lot of them in my current area. Not even in the more rural areas.

  • 1) Pegasus, I love horses and mythology. You could go for a scenic ride or flight any time, any where.
    2) Ireland or Germany. I am a descendant of both countries, and I would love to explore both. To see the history, meet the people, try the food; oh how my heart longs to feel a new vibe from a foreign place.
    3) Hibiscus, such pure radiance, and a lovely aroma. I have loved them since I was a child, and watch "The Jungle Book" with Cary Elwes (oh be still my beating heart).

  • 1). A Bat Winged Pegasus, i've always had a wild imagination that they were real, plus it would be AWESOME to fly over the beautiful rocky mountains of Colorado AT Night. :D
plus i read this book called Airs Beneath The Moon....it is sooooo an amazing story about a bat winged colt :x

2). i would travel most of Spain & Austria where the The Spanish Riding School thats been in Vienna since 1729–1735 :) ...it's my dream to go there and ride one of the Lipizzan horses there :D and then i'd go ride a brumby across Australia, and and trek across Ireland :3

3). Carnations are always my favorite because they are very colorful and smell very nice....and my mothers fav too :D

  • 1.) Definitely a dragon! Can you imagine how awesome it would be to be a dragon rider and go through the lands without any obligation to the current society. I really liked Eragon's concept of it, but I really love how Smaug was described in LOTRs.

2.) Sweden for'sho! I go there a lot anyway but I really want to do the Kings trail and go disappear with the bears and wolves. It's been a dream for a while now but it's just not materialised yet.

3.) It's a common flower called Baby's Breath. Very typical to find in fields, very organic and has a lovely smell to the tiny flowers.

  • 1) I would love to have a Pegasus! Imagine swooping and flying amongst the clouds with the breeze in your face! I've read so many mythological books and Pegasus had always captured my imagination. A noble horse, with wings and the capacity to do anything. Imagine the fun you could have.

    2) I'd love to go to Egypt to help the horses and dogs there. I'd love to help the charity "Prince Fluffy Kareem". They are a ripple in an ocean, absolutely fantastic. When you see the before and after of the horses, it's miraculous!

    3) My favourite flower is daisy, I remember the halcyon days of my youth, lazing in the hay fields with friends making memories and chains. Lying under the summer sky with my pony and then later my horse. Daisy's have just been generally the flower which I see everyday. I don't think they're appreciated enough.
  • Wow, there are some amazing answers on here and I have to say I would love to stow away in everyone's suitcase or visit their garden!

That said. I had two favorite answers and can't decide between them so you will both get a horse.

Waldgraf, I love your Grandfather tree. He is lovely and I miss the giant live oaks and willow oaks and blackjack oaks and sycamores and sweet gum trees I grew up with in the Southern US. Google Curtain Fig Tree to see one of the most impressive species we have growing in the Brisbane area--the strangler figs are really cool.

Timber--the idea a talking dog is so appealing to me--and not just because I'm a vet and they could tell me where it hurts! Your last line about making prank calls with your crocotta just about had me rolling around on the floor. Our pup is quite the chatty little girl. She has recently discovered that if she grabs an empty Kong or similar treat and talks while holding it in her mouth, her voice is amplified and echoes like crazy, makihg her much harder to ignore. She particularly likes to pull this trick with her devil play growl which says to anyone who doesn't know her "My name is Cerberus and I want to rip out your throat" but actually means "play with me!!!!!"

I will contact y'all to figure out how to get you your horses! Thank you everyone for playing!
