Getting the Most out of Straw/Egg Pulling/Flushing
-
I have a stallion and a mare that are both 17 this year, so I'd like to get the most out of them while I can before they pass. Before I do anything, I want to make sure I know how this all works!
For the stallion, the Advanced Breeding Lab says I can pull a maximum of 500 straws.- If I pull straws, can I still (pasture) breed him?
- Or should I (pasture) breed him first, and then pull straws?
- Does (pasture) breeding take away from the number of straws I can pull, or vice versa?
For the mare, the Advanced Breeding Lab says I can pull single eggs or do a mass egg flush to get between 8 and 14 eggs in a single go. But then I can't pull more eggs or breed her for the rest of the season after the mass flush.- So how often can I pull a single egg?
- After I pull single eggs, I can still do a mass egg flush at the end of the season, correct?
- Is there any way to also pasture breed her before or after pulling eggs? Or is it that once I breed her, I can't pull anymore eggs? Can I pasture breed her after I've pulled single eggs (obviously can't after the mass flush)?
Thanks in advance!Thanked by 1supersarah -
For the stallion, pulling straws does not affect pasture or hand live breeding at all (and vice versa).
For the mare, you can't pull eggs if she is in the pasture, and either breeding her or flushing eggs will mean you can't pull any more eggs. The way to get the most eggs possible is to pull a single egg every 5 days until the last time, then do an egg flush. (Pull 1 egg on July 1, 6, 11, 16, 21, and 26 then flush on the 31st. There is the same 5 day wait after pulling a single egg before you can do a flush, so if you are late pulling one or in shorter months, the egg flush is earlier that the last day of the month). If you decide to only pull single eggs you can do pasture or hand live cover breeding right after pulling your last egg, but you won't be able to get much pasture bonus.I was jllewis on the old forum.

Perfect, thank you for the info!

You can't pull eggs or do a flush once breeding season is over, so don't wait until the 31st to flush. Do it before the 28th. I went through a calendar of July and planned out every day that I could pull eggs so as to maximize how many I get. I suggest you do the same!Thanked by 1supersarah

Ooh good to know, thanks for mentioning that! I put reminders in my phone so hopefully that will work. But now I'll change the last one to mass flush the eggs on the 26th instead.
