Drastically improved foal

This foal may not look like much but he is kinda special... His dams pt is 4.1 his sire is 9.5.

He came in a whopping 10.3!

Talk about improving from sire and dam! And intact!

Anyone else have stories like this?

  • That's really not too strange, since it's the parent's breeding ability, not their PT scores that influence the PT scores of their foals.

I once had a mare with a PT score of something like 2.3. She consistently gave me foals with PT scores in the high 9's and low 10's. She papered Blue for a bit, then ended up Red. (This was long ago when Ammit first tightened up mare papering.)

  • Oh wow!
So PT score has nothing to do with breeding ability? So how do we judge breeding ability?

  • Lol I just got a 17hh filly out of two 16.1 Foundation parents. That was weird
  • DivineDreams, breeding ability is most easily judged by papering your breeding stock (breeding inspection). PT ONLY judges showing ability, but says nothing about breeding ability whatsoever.
  • Wow! I recently discovered one of my A papered studs came from a B papered sire and a rank one foundation mare! I can't believe he passed much less papered A.
  • @ElementalStables
All founations are c or yellow papered correct?

  • Not all. I have a few Foundation mares that papered red and the Bonefire stud papered b
  • Ordinary foundations and perfect foundations are C or Yellow. Exceptionally Perfect or Exceptional Producing foundations are papered B or Red. Before the mare papering system was updated to work like the stallion papering system, some regular foundation mares could paper Red since mare paper level used to be determined by the quality of a mare's foals. However, these Red mares are not any better than ordinary Yellow papered foundation mares. If they aren't an exceptional producer, exceptionally perfect, an exceptional RS, or a regular foundation that was given a breeding boost token, then they aren't actually Red quality.

If you're breeding 2 exceptional foundations together, it's fairly easy to get 2G A and Blue papered foals. You can also get A or Blue 2G foals by breeding an ordinary foundation to an exceptional foundation, but it's a lot less common.
