PT Experiment
-
Has anyone done an experiment with lined horses and PT's? With paper levels and even pedigrees.
If I had a Stud with PT of 11 and he were bred to all mares that had 11 the hopeful outcome is that the foal is pt'd at 11.1 or higher.
If I take the same stallion and bred to mares that are say 9.8 would the foals have a chance of being over 11 as well or would it be a shot in the dark with most being lower due to the mares low pt?
I know foundation PT's dont matter so much. I have foals with scores all over the map. I know some cull the lined based on PT scores. Just wondering if theres good reasons or if its just a preference and helps them clean out some stalls.
I was lucky enough this season to get two Gen 2 colts that papered A. I'm thinking about turning one of them in to a filly. I'm pretty sure that if I were to test them against each other the pally would be the better of the two since he is from B and Red. The other is from a C and Red. So I'm thinking that the SpM would be the one to become a filly.

I wouldn't say I did an experiment, but I have a high PT lined stallion I use for breeding my show string. When I started, I felt bad breeding my foundation mares to high PT lined stallions at public stud because I knew it effected their AFPT so I won my own at auction and breed him without really expecting any to pass BA.
His PT is 11.6. His AFPT is 10.8, though he's only been bred to foundations so far. All, so far, have PTs lower than his. However, a quarter PTed above 11 and two PTed at 11.5 and 11.3, so very close to his PT.
So, I think it depends on how different the PTs are. I suspect if I bred him to some of my 2G mares with PTs in the 10s, I may be able to get some PTs higher than the stallions based on the range I'm seeing with mares in the 9s.
Hopefully, this info helps! -
PT has nothing to do with breeding ability - a horse's PT will not affect the PT of its foals whatsoever.

I've found if you throw a high PT boy with a low PT girl that the foal's PT is higher than it's mother's by a huge amount. However, putting a high PT boy with a high PT girl usually results in the foal being around the same PT as its parents.User ID: 25715

I have this boy. His sire is Exceptional and has 10.4pt his dam not so great. I didnt do PT cuz that was way back when I first started. She was just a regular create and not good at showing.

This boy has a pt of 9.8 which is way lower than his sire but probably pretty good compared to his dam. So far he's been a great producer. He has 3 foals out of 36 that are under 10PT. One most likely due to inconsistency. Another one dam is 9.9 foal is 9.8 same as sire. The third is 9.8 with 9.7 dam.
I'm thinking that the pasture bonus has something to do with it. The one's that had pasture bonus produced foals way over both parents pt scores. 9.8 + 10.1 = 11.1 and 9.8+ 9.7= 11
I know that I read somewhere where you can expect an increase of PT by so many pts in each gen like .4 or something like that.
I will play with this next season. I have enough variety in mares and stallions now to pair them up as a test. Really highs to really lows and those who are about the same.
