Lol, he's homozygous satin. Not dirty or glitched. :)
-
Oooooh I see lol I didn't didn't know that. Why does the satin do that to the black horses?
-
It does that on all horses but the rainbow-y sheen is more noticeable on some colors than others. Satin is the most expensive gene in the GMT lab along with KitM. It only shows up when the horse is homozygous.
-
It does it to all horses. Here are my satins to give you perspective :) See it does it to all HOM sasa satins

Satin has to be homozygous recessive in order to show up on a horse, just like Flaxen has to be homozygous recessive on a chestnut horse to show up. In the case of Satin, it will show up on all colors, but if a horse carries Gray or is an Appaloosa and will varnish, the metallic sheen will disappear with advancing grayness or varnishing.
Here's a link to what Ammit has to say about satin in the Genetics Guide:

I'm in love with satin too. I got lucky last week I found a stallion for sale that had het satin and worked for my breeding program. It's going to be a bit before I actually see the results but I'm super excited.
