Question about KP
-
Does this horse have KP?
Faded Blu
If she did, that means that both of her parents would have to be het for it, since neither express it, right? It's not my horse btw, but I own the sire, so I was wondering if that made him het KP :-/ -
Looks like it has KP. Only way to tell fotlr sure is to put him in the Breeders club. so yes the is either het kp or is missing a 2nd kit gene for the expression.
-
To me he looks like he has KP. You might have to go back and check his ancestors to see if any were gmt'd tobe KP
-
@Foxx, it didn't let me enter my horse into the KP club, so I guess he doesn't have it. But, I don't know much about the gene :))
@RainTree, I found a horse way back in her pedigree that was GMTd KP. This horse is very inbred, so it's in both of her parent's pedigrees. Would that be enough to give her homo KP? -
I think, to be entered into the KP club, the horse has to be homozygous KP and have two Kit mutations.
If the KP got handed down through the generations heterozygously, it wouldn't show up in the various horses. If both parents are hidden KP carriers, and they both passed it on to this horse, yes, one common KP ancestor in the pedigrees of both parents would be enough to give the mare homozygous KP.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Which ancestor was it?Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
-
I think he was het KP, but I spotted him 6 times in Faded Blu's pedigree
KTF Arctic Shine -
Yes shes homozygous KP and Arctic Shine was at least het KP.
-
Wow! Yes, she might be responsible for what certainly looks lik a homozygous KP mare.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

MG Lightning Theif
Since he's the sire of Faded Blu, that makes him het KP? -
Oh wow :)) I picked him up at the auction because he had pretty coloring, I didn't even realize that he was homo kitm, and now het KP!
-
Lucky find. :)
