Pasture Conundrum
-
Okay, so I didn't think this through when I planned my pasture seasons a couple months ago. I have a pasture full of red mares and one blue girl who I have been excited to breed my A boy to since she was born. I know the logical thing would be to just throw my B boy in the pasture since the majority of the mares in there are red papered. The thing is if I did that then I would want to pull the blue mare out of the pasture and breed her to my A boy. Of course, I do not want to lose my pasture bonus with her so I'm at a loss of what to do. I also thought about just throwing both boys in the pasture and hoping the A boy would breed to the blue mare, but my luck that wouldn't be the case. There is no way I could buy an extra pasture, I thought of that also. What would you guys do if you were in this situation?

Maybe just put the A boy in? More will be altered, but I don't find that that much more will be. And the ones that are intact will be all the better. Or as you said, just take her out to breed.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

I would just put the A boy in. Since they have pasture bonus you'll likely end up with some intact. Especially if some are high red.Owner Of Bellwether Farm

I'd personally just pull her out and lose her bonus - better to lose one bonus than to mess up all the other breedings.
-
Id pull her out also. Why waste your matched quality horses for one mare?----

I'm with HunterUnderSaddlegirl on this one. I've had 3 blue mares in my pastures with only B stallions because that's what I had. I have plenty of intact babies from those mares. Maybe I would have had more if I had had an A Stallion but it was still enough.

It depends what you're chasing.
If more intact foals are your goal, I would throw in your B boy and/or pull your Blue girl out.
If higher quality is your goal, I would throw in your A boy.
Neither is wrong. It's just about priorities. -
^That. I always stick my 2g A boys in with red mares and have gotten some lovely Blue 3g mares and A papered colts. My homebred(mostly) Star papered 4g colt is a product of a 3g A papered sire, whose parents are a 2g A and 2g Red.

Thank you all for your input, i think I'll just throw the A boy in!
