Question about this mare
  • This mares oldest son is 12 years old and this mare is 15 years old if that is true this mare had her oldest son at age 3. I thought the youngest mares could breed is 4 years old I'm confused image

  • I think that is normal since foals are born as yearlings. A mare bred at 4 has a yearling, at 5 her foal is 2, at 6 her foal is 3, etc.

  • But they are 3 years apart she had to have had that foal at 3 if they are 3 years apart
  • Foals skip being foals - they go straight to being yearlings. So really the younger horse is 13. So a 4YO mare will have a yearling filly.
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
  • Still does not make sense to me lol the horse is 12 now and the mom is 15 that would make her 3 when she had him oh well lol
  • In this game, foals appear as yearlings and turn 2, not 1, at rollover to the next game year.

In HaJ 1, with its 2 month-long years, foals are foals for the first month and become yearlings in the 2nd month (or are born yearlings if it's the 2nd month when they come into being). They all become 2 year olds at the first game year roll-over after they are born.

So, horses whose parents were 3 (stallions) or 4 (mares) when they came into being will always seem a year too old for the age of their parents, once they turn 2.

  • Another way to show this progression.

Year 43: Sire is 3, dam is 4, foal is born a yearling.
Year 44: Sire turns 4, dam turns 5. Youngster turns 2.
Year 45: Sire turns 5, dam turns 6. Offspring turns 3.

Ammit designed it this way so we players wouldn't have to wait so long for the foals we breed to age up enough to carry on the line. It's one way the game doesn't mirror real life.

  • Foals are born as 1 year olds. So when you breed a mare at 4, she is three years older than her foal.

  • Oh ok I get it now well I feel like an idiot haha I have "duh" moments all the time lol thanks everyone for explaining it to me I was extremely confused for no reason because now it makes perfect sense lol
  • Nah, everyone has "duh" moments. You are not alone! :D

  • Lol good I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
  • Sometimes it takes several ways of saying the same thing for that aha! moment to show up when the explanation your brain "gets" is posted. There's nothing wrong with that.
