Unevenly Bred Horses
  • So, when I started out - I ignorantly bred uneven horses because I thought it went by Era, not generation. I've also bought a few uneven horses, all the way through 9th generation. Is there a way to breed them that would make good foals (even just showing prospect foals) or are they just pretty show ponies that should be sterilized?
  • I would either turn them into show ponies or breed as if it never happened but keep them in house. The further on down the generation, the less significant it gets. As In.. if you breed evenly from this point forward, by the time you reach 4th gen, it should hardly matter. I've heard your foals have a better chance of getting spayed through testing when you have uneven lines, as well. As far as I know, there is no right or wrong way to play or do it. It is just what the gamers prefer. If you want some dang good show horses, uneven breeding is the way to go. They can make good show horses for sure!
  • Okay, I'm working on show horses this season for fundraising ;) so, if these uneven mares only produce foals that need to be sterilized, so be it.
  • There is no reason you can't breed yourself some show ponies from them, although it might be kind of a pain to keep track of which of your horses are bred evenly and which aren't. If they're young, my personal preference would be to sterilize and show... but if they're kind of older and aren't going to gain much training by altering now, you can always rotate them into a pasture to produce a for-profit foal each season, in addition to showing (breed for 500 hbs, then auction... profit is something like 1800 per).
  • That's a good idea too, Abbey. I have a few Perfect Foundations, Great Show Horses, Super Consistent, and Top Notch horses I'm keeping unsterilized specifically for breeding my show string. Anything that doesn't quickly gain points by showing will definitely be auctioned.

I had a beautiful stallion I got from a HH, didn't get gelded in tests but got judged as a showing prospect. He gained 5points the first time I showed him so, I gelded him and kept him. Haha. I went on a huge sterilization kick spaying and gelding anything with a high PT score that I didn't want to breed and keeping the low PTs to supplement my "perfect" type foundations. I had soooo many foundation creates. I'm a sucker.
