When to go from B to A boys
-
I have a lot of 3G boys. I am wondering when do you switch from 3G B papered boys to A papered boys?
-
There is no right or wrong way.
If you use an A for a season and aren't happy with your intact rate, switch back. If you like your B better than your A, stick with the B. If you want to be super stringent about an aggressive increase in quality, switch to an A as quick as you can.
It's a game. Don't let someone else's goals dictate how you play. You have enough stress going on in your real life right now. Just enjoy the pretty ponies and take care of yourself! -
I personally find that since I can get 3G A papered boys, I use them instead of keeping any of my 3G B papered boys. Mostly it helps me cut down on my colts because I always have way too many.

How is your mare population? If you have many blue mares, A studs will be best to get god quality intact foals from them, and would help intact foals from reds be higher quality too. If most of your mares are reds and you want high intact rate I would go with a B. I go with needing A and blue papers by 3 since I am always looking for ways to cut down on the number of keeper foals every year, and my lines have a bit of expro in them, so they have less room for excuses on that department.
-
Why not do a compromise? If you have a multiple stallion pasture then you can just put your favorites overall.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

I'm more concerned about paper level than generation, so I have to wait to start breeding my A boys since I only have a few Blue mares, and they aren't of age yet.
