I want to sing the praises of the grey (or gray if US) horses/ponies out there! Please pick a number between 1 and 20 and tell me about a grey horse you know or once knew.
    Here's my story:-

My friend I sometimes hack out with, has a grey conemara/thoroughbred mare called Kitty. In her younger days she was quite spooky and often used to shy at everything including flowers in Spring that weren't there last week. However, I was all set for a sponsored endurance ride with my own horse and he managed to throw a shoe at the last minute, so Kitty came with me instead. She was fantastic and didn't put a foot wrong. We flew around and both loved it.

  • I've posted a pic of her on FB page :)
  • 18- I owned a grey at one point who was used for hunting, when bought she was very skinny and took off with you, now she's an amazing horse that loves to pull funny faces and is very moody 24/7! She also turns into a bay when in the field :P

  • 11- i own a grey pony named Destiny. Hes now 17 and were have had him since he wad 4 months old.. hes a bit psycho though.. Bucks under saddle so never been properly ridden.. but hes a real sweetheart who likes being brushed. I have him because my mum couldn't keep him and i didn't want him ending in the wrong hands.. so he will live out his days in a big paddock.. be used to be a stunning dapple grey and was quite successful in led classes but has now gone fleabitten.. he always gets complimented on his looks. Despite all his issues though hes a super smart pony.. and i love him to bits

My first point was also a grey.. typical little cheeky Welsh pony.. he taught me everything i know but we sadly lost him to cancer..

    I love greys

I couldn't pick just one grey, so here's a daily double!

My wonderful trainer and barn owner had two beautiful grey ladies in her life. Blue was her fleabitten roping horse, and dang that horse could scoot. My own mare was a plodding half quarter horse/half La-Z-Boy recliner, so when I got to ride Blue in lessons it was like switching from a Power Wheels with a dying battery to a Mercedes. That horse taught me how to side-pass, and be Gentle With My Hands, and that I could ride a working rodeo horse. She always kept a level head, and never spooked with me. The confidence boost she gave me stays with me today when I'm on a more difficult mount.

Crystal was my trainer's Heart Horse. She bought that mare as a teenager by working odd jobs and saving money. Crystal and my mare HATED each other (they fought over a pile of hay when being introduced, and were frenemies for life), but they were both Bossy Mares, so I never held it against Crystal. In her defense, my mare was kind of a punk. She was a true unicorn: long, flowy pewter mane, gorgeous white coat with delicate flea bitten marks.

We lost all three within two years (they were similar in age), and it was rough. I only had to say goodbye and have my heart broken once, but my trainer lost three horses. She boarded my girl for close to 15 years, and treated her with just as much love and care as her own horses. Crystal, the oldest, held on the longest, just to win one last contest against the other two : P When she died, it was the end of an era. She was nearly as special to me as my own mare.

My grey horse was a mini. I owned him since the day he was born and i worked with him and trained him for pretty close to two years. we never got him gelded since we never had the money and when he aged to about four years he started acting studish and we were going to geld him but he made my parents hate him for some reason and they sold him and i never had a choice... I now have a chestnut morgan mare and i wouldn't trade her for the world but i still miss my little dude...
