Nexus Opinions
  • So I am starting to plan a Nexus line. I have one stallion but he will need some lady friends so I am trying to decide what color of Mares to look for. Any opinions on what your favorite color(s) underneath Nexus are? I'm a little torn because non-patterned horses show the heterozygous version better, but the patterned horses look really cool when homozygous.

I really only have one line going in my barn right now, and I have had inklings lately of wanting to do a Dun line with some sort of pattern. Like dun with minimal blanket Appy (blanket examples: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=266140, http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=323806) or Dun with sabino maybe?

So then I thought maybe I should just combine my Dun line with the Nexus on top and throw in the Appy or Sabino if/when I can. Or I could do just a dark colored line, so blacks, liver chestnuts, browns, sooty grullos and bays with the nexus on top. I think Nexus shows up well on the dark colored horses.

Thoughts? Opinons? What do you like? Pictures or links would be helpful so I can see if I like it too!

  • Personally light colors and het nexus dont mix well. I have my own nexus line ( about 14) i think a little less than one half are altered but my two intact nexus stallions will be of age in march.

  • That silver and Nexus one Baya is really pretty. I like that combo.
  • Really Salvistar its all opinion on the nesux gene, but i love it

  • I prefer the darker colors or shades because the Nexus really pops on it, it seems to fade or be invisiable on the lighter colors or shades

Homozygous nexus smokey black stallion and his link so you can look at his het babies. Heterozygous I definitely prefer the dark bays and blacks, tho I have some good looking creams in there. Baya's silver is from my boy. But Abbey Road has some amazing looking homozygous kids in a wide variety of color bases...honestly, for homozygous I don't think you can go wrong....unless you don't like the raindrops on a window look you get with some of the creams.
  • Your best bet, in my opinion, is solid colors with shading - pangare, creams, bays, some chestnuts. They make really cool colors when inverted. Then you can add some patterns in with your mares if you want to.
  • Good thought on the shading idea Abbey. Thanks for the links Cheers and Baya, I looked through Cheers' and Abbey's nexus babies. It seems Most agree with my initial thought that the nexus looks better on the darker colors. I like it in homozygous form on the bays a lot.

I noticed though that on the homozygous ones the socks and face markings stayed white instead of being inverted. Thought that was interesting. Cheers' stud above you can see has the white socks. I never noticed that before.

  • I hadn't noticed that either! White patterns invert though, I'm pretty sure.
  • Is nexus still available for sale? :( I'd love a nexus pony!!!
  • No, it's not, and Ammit has said that it will be quite a long time before she offers it again, if she ever does. She's considering not doing that at all.

She really likes to keep this game focused on real life possibilities, and so would prefer to keep the fantasy genes to a minimum.

  • I really like that decision. Don't get me wrong - Nexus is awesome - but I really love the realism of the game. I'm learning so much!
