New gmt project

    IRR Perfection ExPer

This Exceptionally Perfect boy is going to be my new herd sire, after some GMT work. I have 2 GMT, and I need to get some more to finish him, but right now I'm trying to decide where to start. This is my first real GMT project and I am excited! His starting genotype and what I plan to do are listed below:

    Started:
Ee aa CC dd gg Ff SS Pp WF: None

    Goal:
Ee A+At CC dd gg ff StySty pp Zz

    I plan to add wild bay & brown; a 2nd flaxen; a 2nd non-pangare; 2 sooty and 1 silver.
  • The sooty is always good in my book. I am not sure the flaxen or pangare will make much difference. And with A+ and At you will get wild bay. If you want wild bay I would just do 1 A+ or 2 A+ to ensure his offspring get to be wild bays or if you want brown I would go At and a, makes a prettier brown :) Just my thoughts on it. Do what you fancy - that's the beauty of the game. :) Personally I am not a big fan of silver. Have fun!
  • I do a lot of A+ or A with At to get the possibility of brown foals! Remember if you leave him Ee that he can still throw red based foals too...which I suspect is why you’re fooling with flaxen.
  • I want wild bay and brown in his offspring, so i plan to put both on him. I also want his offspring to be "dark" so sooty and no pangare, and for his chestnut foals to be flaxen. I also love silver, so I want assorted silver babies. I have a plan for the future. ;)

  • Excellent planning!
  • It's obvious that you've put a lot of thought into where you want your herd to go, including considerable variety. I think you've done a good job planning for a versatile foundation sire.

  • Yep - sounds fantastic - you have a plan - good luck :)
    I wish I had a plan... ;)
  • Bahaha he looks like a flaxen chestnut! Hope to get some sooty on him soon. :)
  • My suggestion would be to start with your most important genes first as well. That way if you run out of time or funds you've at least spent your GMTs on what you wanted the most.

    Good planning. :)
