Getting frustrated...
-
My 4g boys are not coroporating with me. I have been comparing them with my 3G benchmark boy Wildly Arrad and they are coming up AGA to him. One even being his own son. It is making me sick tonight. I still have to compare his other son to him. I am about to scrap my 4g boys altogether.
Some I spent money on straws and eggs. Those hurt even more. -
That sucks, sorry you're having trouble best friend :-/Celestial Performance Horses

Thanks it does but I do know Arrad is great quality. I will have to rethink them. It is good to know where my boys are at 4g. Not entirely bad but just have to rethink.

If it makes you feel better I haven't gotten a "superior" son in several generations, but I do have sons who are better producers than their fathers. Sometimes you have to take baby steps. It takes a lot of HBs, but I like to compare them to horses that test AGA my benchmark. If the up and comer is higher quality, he will usually test superior to at least a couple of the horses the benchmark tests AGA.
It is caused by mare lag. Your mares aren't as good as your studs, and every generation that you only keep "superior" studs the mares lag behind a little bit more. Makes it harder and harder to get that superior stud. It's not a bad thing, and keeping an AGA stud isn't a failure. It can give you a generation to let your mares catch up. It can also increase your rate of intact foals too, as your mare/stud quality doesn't get too out of balance.
There are a lot of breeding practices that get tossed around as the "best" way to do things that aren't always the best way to do things. Like only even breeding and only keeping superior sons. -
Dark Star's total domination of the LBs proves she knows what she is talking about. :D

Ok. That gives me something to think about and to look at my girls instead of my boys so much for now.

@darkstar I never thought about it like that :) I always felt my colts had to paper superior in order for me to use them. But I like your process and I think I just might have to start using it!

That makes a lot of sense @darkstar ppphu I can breathe now I was having the same problems lol :)
