Hi guys,

So I am getting a puppy soon (she's only 11 days old at the moment) and I can't for the life of me come up with a name I like. The little one is a female chocolate (possibly lilac) merle border collie. She has a fair amount of white on her face and her white markings go straight through her eye so it may be blue or partially blue.

I am super fussy with names and don't usually like people names. It needs to be easy to say and not too long. My previous girls name was Panda. It is must be boyfriend approved.

Current liked suggestions are:
-Latte
-Duchess
-Dream

If anyone offers a name that I end up naming her I will give 3 free straws from any of my stallions and possibly a choice out of a select few foals.

Anyone who has lots of good suggestions I may also offer a free straw from selected stallions (KP or Snowflake)

Congrats!! She sounds like a real sweetie, you should post pics when you can!

Since her eye could be blue, Sky? Or Skylar?

Other names could be Mocha, Lila, Lilac, Lily, Heather, Dusk, Dawn, Willow, Amber, Sage, Aspen, Ginger, Doe, Honey, Snickerdoodle and that's all I got right now, though I'm sure I'll add to it later (if that's allowed) Hope this helps!

LOL! I don't like people names for my animals, either. So of course I have Billy, Max, Cody, and Alex right now! :-))

Naming dogs “sweet” names like Honey and Snickerdoodle seems to make them terrors at the vets office. Speaking for your vet, please discard those suggestions.

I have friends with themes for their animal names, like one has all Fire names. Ember, Ash, Blaze, but also Fire deities and cool stuff like that.

Maybe Merly? My rule for naming animals is no human names and no common names :)

My daughter named her puppy Jelly (she’s 3 btw). She’s pretty good at making up names and they’re very nice I might say!

I used to have a merle dachshund named Haggard (as in Merle Haggard). Mine was a male, but I would totally name a female that for the same reason.

I adore merle border collies and yours sounds gorgeous! And naming animals is the best part, so you need to make a good choice :D

I love border collies - I have had 2 called Bracken and Thorn. I liked the outdoor/plant theme with them as they so love to be out and about. I did agility and flyball with Bracken and she was so clever. We taught her the names of lots of household items - including "remote" and "keys" when I was feeling particularly lazy! :) I am so pleased for you - hope you have lots of fun when she comes...

I keep seeing melted marshmallows in hot cocoa looking at her. Malla, as in Mallow only more feminine.

Splotch or Specks comes to mind as well. Slush could work as she also reminds me of slushy snow.

Chippy could work with the chocolate chip cookie thoughts.

OMG. lil aussie pup? I looooove her little pink nose! My aussie boy also has a pink nose, but he is blue, not red <3<br />He is the most loving thing on earth. Bat sh*t crazy, but looooves every living thing.

Thanks for the opinions, I need to chat to the other half when he gets home. @maribo, close but she is a border collie, I also think her nose won't stay completely pink as you can see brown bits that weren't there when she was younger (top photo)

An update, we may get to give her a registered name as well and we are currently liking "Painted Berwyn" so it would mean "Painted Bear Friend" which would be quite nice since we had Panda. We are not sure if she will already registered under a name, however I am happy to give a straw to ColourWorld (Who inspired the "Painted") and Maya (Who inspired "Berwyn").

You guys may pick 3 straws from the same or different stallions preference for ones that are already 3 otherwise I may forget and you'll have to remind me next breeding season.

I will however still take name suggestions for a registered name or day to day name, however we are still liking Latte. I will still rewarding straws and possibly foals (once finish off my testing).

She reminds me of a kookaburra with those face markings! If you're looking for something a little more unique - and you can shorten it to Cookie like my family does when we're talking about these lovely birds.

About the nose, mine was all pink when he was a baby, but it is still getting more black :) He is 3,5 now, and I still see it filling in. I dont think he will ever be filled in enough to show, though. I love his pink little nose <3

I will not be "showing" as in breed showing anyway Maribo, she will only be on a limited register but her registered name will be used for other dog sports that I do such as agility. I personally am not fond of "'showing" as I feel sometimes they create "faults" that are not really as important as conformation faults. Not to mention I am fairly sure chocolate merle isn't even a recognised colour in Australia.

Thanks Maya, I do need a few though as they need to be approved by the stud. She will also have the stud prefix added.
