PT scores on 3rd Gens
-
I'm just curious. What is your highest 3rd gen PT score?
Mine seems to be 11. One even managed to stay intact through testing. I'm very curious if she will manage to be a good brood mare as well.

I got some 11.1 s. 8 of them, in fact, all descended from my top 2 gen 2 stallions.
-
I got one 11.1 but it got gelded. Funny all my 11's are from the same stallion, your NYC Spice boy.

I have one 11.3, among my intact horses (which I can search for by generation). I don't have a way to easily examine the neuters, since I don't tattoo them or put their generation in their names.

It probably helps that he's a Best in Pasture colt.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

PT is how long they will train before leveling off for showing. I am not sure, but I don't think it has anything to do with breeding ability. I know I have some really high 3rd gen PT mares, that I spayed because they didn't give me good breeding stock or show horses. But they are really excellent show horses themselves.
My highest intact is an 11.1, and I have a few 11's that are also intact. -
My understanding of PT is that it has 2 purposes. The PT of any individual horse is as Paints says--an indication of how long (and possibly well) a horse will train and therefore how many weeks it will be able to move up the showing levels.
However, the average foal PT of any breeding animal can speak to its quality as a breeder when compared to any other breeding horse of the same generation and with similar breeding opportunities (for instance, 2 foundation mares who live in the same pasture and are bred to the same stallion/batch of stallions for several seasons). The horses with higher AFPTs are better breeders if other differences are controlled.
Certainly the fact that I only have 2 gen 2 stallions giving me foals with such high PTs makes me want to think about looking at those stallions in the next season or two and compare their AFPTs! Either way I'm super excited it's a NYC Levels colt that is giving Fj high PT foals! -

i just found an 11.2 from another stallion! Yay!!!

I know the personal PT of any horse has nothing or little to do with breeding which is why I say I wonder how good of a brood mare she will make. Obviously , given her PT she'll be a nice show horse. I was also curious what everyone else 3rd gen PT's were. Seeing an 11 PT score for me was a surprise but this was also my first year breeding what I know are awesome 2nd gen stallions :)
